Job Description

Norfolk, VA – Sentara Healthcare, a $6.2 billion dollar, 12 hospital, fully integrated health system seeks an innovative and progressive physician leader to serve as their next Senior Corporate Vice President and Chief Physician Executive (CPE).

In addition to their hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina, Sentara operates four medical groups with over 1000+ providers, is affiliated with Eastern Virginia Medical School, has additional relationships with the leading teaching institutions in Virginia, and owns Optima Health, the insurance division of the System.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer of Sentara, the CPE will champion quality, align providers to reduce variation of care, foster clinical effectiveness and implement a culture of excellence in the delivery of clinical services.  The CPE is empowered to develop and implement clinical process improvements to achieve top quartile performance on key quality metrics with the goal to enhance total cost of care.

The successful candidate will serve as the clinical strategist for Sentara, driving process improvements focused on innovation and on operational models designed to improve clinical services, outcomes, and promote a patient-centered environment.  He/she will be a physician with appropriate board certification in a recognized specialty.

Candidates are required to have a minimum of seven years of experience as a senior physician leader in a complex, high performing healthcare system including medical groups, large integrated delivery networks, hospitals and/or other care delivery organizations, payors, managed care organizations, quality improvement organizations or in life sciences.
