Job Description

The University of New Mexico invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the College of Pharmacy. The Dean serves as the chief executive officer of the College and, as such, requires innovative vision and engaging leadership to direct, grow and support the educational, research and clinical activities. The Dean represents the College to the local, national and international communities and has general administrative responsibility for the College, including its compliance with accreditation standards, fundraising, marketing, interdisciplinary and interprofessional initiatives, and resource allocation. Reporting to the Chancellor for the Health Sciences, the Dean is part of the executive leadership team forging the direction of the University of New Mexico’s Health Sciences Center and the University at-large.

Located in the historically rich Southwest, the College of Pharmacy is part of the Health Sciences campus and works collaboratively with the School of Medicine (including the internationally known ECHO program), the College of Nursing, the College of Population Health, the UNM Hospitals, the Clinical and Translational Science Center, and the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center in the State's largest health complex. The College, established in 1945, is the only college of pharmacy in New Mexico, and is the oldest health profession educational program in the state. The College is a member of AACP, is accredited by ACPE through June 30, 2024, and currently trains Pharm.D. and graduate students, as well as, post-graduate fellows and residents.  The College of Pharmacy boasts robust research and clinical pharmacy programs with world-class investigators and clinicians.

Candidates must possess an earned Pharm.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in a relevant academic discipline. Candidates should have a strong business sense and an understanding of what it takes to help enhance educational programs and research funding in a competitive environment. Exceptional communication skills, financial acumen and the potential to fundraise are essential, as is a clear vision for advancing all missions in the midst of a changing higher education landscape.
