Job Description

Witt/Kieffer has been retained by Muskingum University to lead the recruitment of its next Athletic Director. The AD will replace Larry Shank, who will retire May 31st, 2018  after 16 years of outstanding service. Muskingum is a NCAA Division III institution and is a long-time member of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Since 1941, the Fighting Muskies have had 101 student-athletes achieve All-American status, while 48 have been named Academic All-Americans..  The AD  is responsible for leading the long-term, strategic development of a comprehensive program that embraces the NCAA Division III philosophy and supports the developmental and educational mission of Muskingum. The University's Athletic program includes 21 NCAA Division III intercollegiate teams and is comprised of more than 600 student athletes.    

Reporting to the President, the key roles and responsibilities of the Athletic Director include leading the Muskingum Athletics Department consistent with the University's mission, vision, and values; developing a strategic plan that aligns with the University's vision; enhancing the educational experience by providing athletic opportunities to students with varying interest and skills; promoting student-athletes' personal development, high academic achievement, and full participation in all aspects of college life.  The ideal candidate will be a visible leader on campus, and in the community; representing  Muskingum Athletics to external constituents, including prospective students, parents, alumni and the general public in a manner that demonstrates personal and professional integrity.
