Bryant University - Executive Director of the Senator John H. Chafee Center for International Business

Smithfield, RI

Job Description

Bryant University (Smithfield, RI) announces the search for the Executive Director of the Senator John H. Chafee Center for International Business. The Center is a vital resource for both the State and the campus and establishes, develops, and enhances opportunities for businesses to expand into international markets. Further, the Center supports the University's experiential learning strategy through its academic programs that provide faculty and students with opportunities to participate in internships, practica, and research projects in support of companies whose goals are to expand into international markets.

The Executive Director will be a visionary and strategic leader whose entrepreneurial spirit will elevate the activities of the Center into new markets and expand its influence in the region.  Reporting to the Provost, the Executive Director oversees the World Trade Center Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Export Assistance Center while maintaining strong relationships with the Department of Commerce and the state's Executive Offices. The Executive Director will have experience with financial management and grants management, and will be a successful fund-raiser on behalf of the Center.  In addition, the Executive Director must partner closely with Bryant University faculty in International Business, Supply Chain Management, Entrepreneurship, and the MBA program, among others, for research and internship opportunities.  Working closely with the Center's extensive international trade programs, including the State Trade Director, World Trade Center, Eastern Trade Council, District Export Council and by supporting trade missions and trade shows, the Executive Director will be a public advocate and spokesperson for the Chafee Center, and more broadly for the links between the activities of the Center and the University's strategic mission.  The Executive Director recruits and supports a highly qualified team of undergraduate and graduate students and affiliated faculty who serve as "in house' consultants to the client organizations seeking training, research, and strategic advice from the Chafee Center.

As a politically savvy and experienced leader, the Executive Director will work collaboratively with the Bryant University administration to position the Center for even greater levels of success by expanding its fund-raising and revenue-producing capacity. Building on the work of the late Director Raymond Fogarty, the Center will continue to partner with both established and emerging businesses in the region to realize increased opportunities for internships, research projects, and consultation.

The search is underway and will continue until the position is filled.  Candidates should have an advanced degree; demonstrated experience in building strategic alliances between academic, government and business organizations; and a strong background in the development, delivery and promotion of international business, trade and import and export programs.  Knowledge of local, state and federal regulations and legislative actions affecting small businesses is preferred. Demonstrated decision and policy-making experience, as well as budget and financial management are required. Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills are essential for success in this role. Grants administration and fundraising skills are highly desirable.
