Adventist Health, Inc. - Medical Officer, Glendale Market

Glendale, CA

Job Description

Adventist Health, a faith-based, non-profit, $3.9 billion integrated health system, has retained Witt/Kieffer to conduct a national search for their Medical Officer (MO) of their flagship Southern California market in Glendale, California. This role is the most senior physician leader across the continuum of care for the 515-bed acute care tertiary center with 12 outpatient centers based in Glendale, California, serving Los Angeles County, with net patient revenue of more than $450 million.

The Medical Officer role represents the opportunity to join a mission-driven and complex organization that is continuing its transition from a federated model of care delivery to a centralized, operating model, focused on the entire continuum of care. This leader will walk into a nationally-recognized, multi-state health system that has substantial reach and can profoundly impact the health of the populations the system serves. The MO will lead the care transformation process in a critical Adventist market.

Reporting directly to the Adventist Health Glendale President with a dotted line reporting to the Regional Medical Officer, Southern California, the Medical Officer will oversee and be responsible for advancing the market’s clinical agenda to continue its journey from a fee-for-service based culture to one focused on fee-for-value. This leader will foster the clinical leadership and engagement necessary for care redesign and creating a high reliability organization across the full continuum for the acute and ambulatory services.

Adventist Health Glendale is Leapfrog ‘A” rated and has consistently high quality with nationally-recognized specialty and primary care services. The facilities include a busy emergency room with 60,000 annual visits and a clinic system with almost 300,000 outpatient visits. In partnership with its community medical staff, Adventist Health plays an important role in serving patients in the diverse communities of its highly competitive and dynamic market.

The successful MO will be a physician with appropriate board certification and progressive experience in clinical practice. The ideal candidate will preferably have a primary care or medical subspecialty background; most important is the ability to relate to inpatient and ambulatory providers and issues. The MO will have at least five years in a physician/executive/administrative leadership role; an advanced degree in health care or business related field is preferred. The successful MO will be visible, collaborative, an outstanding communicator, and able to build relationships to engage peers in delivering excellence in clinical care.
