Job Description

New Bedford, MA – Southcoast Health seeks a collaborative, visible and progressive physician leader to serve as President of Southcoast Physicians Group (SPG).

Southcoast Health is one of the largest health systems in Massachusetts, a not-for-profit organization which was created in 1996 as the result of the merger of St. Luke's Health Care System in New Bedford, MA; Charlton Health System in Fall River, MA; and Tobey Health System in Wareham, MA.  Southcoast Health now also includes Southcoast Behavioral Health in Dartmouth, MA, which is a joint venture with Acadia Healthcare.  The hospitals, which operate under a single license, amounting to 815-beds, provide a full range of primary/secondary services and selected tertiary services such as open-heart surgery. 

SPG, the largest medical group in the region, was established in 2010 from two legacy organizations as a subsidiary of Southcoast Health.  The group is a multispecialty integrated network of over 370 employed providers, made up of 293 Physicians and 174 APPs.  SPG currently maintains a $378M gross patient service revenue per year.  SPG has 10 Accredited NCQA Level III Patient Centered Medical Homes and 62 ambulatory practice locations spread across a wide geography - Wareham, MA to Middletown and Providence, RI.

The President of SPG will lead the advancement of the employed physicians into a mature group practice fully integrated into the system.  This physician leader will be responsible for the development and implementation of all strategic and operational initiatives, partnering closely with key leaders to support growth in all markets and establishing a strong sense of ‘systemness’ throughout the organization.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding leader with a track record of success building and developing effective and efficient medical group structures, improving operational performance and developing excellent physician relationships in a competitive market.  S/he will be a physician with a medical degree from an accredited school, appropriate board certification and eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Massachusetts.
