American Jewish University (AJU), formerly known as the University of Judaism, is a thriving center of Jewish resources and talent built upon the mission of Jewish learning, culture, ethics, leadership and peoplehood. In 2007, the University of Judaism acquired the Brandeis-Bardin Institute, creating a landmark entity, from then on known as American Jewish University. This organization now boasts two campuses and a shared future.
To continue and enhance this record of service to the community, AJU now seeks a president to succeed a long-tenured incumbent.
AJU is more than a university, and it serves a wide array of publics, from undergraduate and graduate students to children aged 8-16 to adult learners. Built on the philosophies of Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan and Dr. Shlomo Bardin, the University is comprised of undergraduate and graduate programs, a large and respected continuing studies operation, a day and overnight camp, and a Rabbinical school. In addition to academic study, within this construct are multiple programs focusing on Jewish life and civilization, family life, and arts and culture. The AJU is not aligned with a specific Jewish denomination, with the exception of the University’s Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies, which educates rabbis within the conservative movement.
AJU’s new president will have the unique opportunity to begin by articulating a compelling vision for the University’s future. The president will partner with a committed board of trustees to build and execute a strategic plan that lays out a roadmap to realize that vision. Thus, the University seeks a powerful visionary with substantial managerial experience, strong financial acumen, the willingness and ability to raise philanthropic support and personal engagement with Jewish life and culture. The president will lead through a period of change, so sensitivity to history and culture, personal courage and decisiveness, and unquestioned integrity are absolutely required.
