Job Description

Adventist Health, with headquarters in Roseville, California, has retained Witt/Kieffer to conduct a national search for their Regional Medical Officer (RMO) for their Central California region. This position, based in Hanford, California, will serve as the most senior physician leader for the $1.4 billion Central California region with seven hospitals and over 140 clinics. Adventist Health is a faith-based, non-profit, $3.9 billion health system with an integrated delivery system serving more than 75 communities on the West Coast and Hawaii. Adventist Health includes 19 hospitals and more than 280 clinics.

The RMO role represents the opportunity to join a mission-driven and complex organization that is continuing its transition from a federated model of care delivery to a more standardized and centralized model, focused on the entire continuum of care. This leader will join a nationally-recognized, multi-state health system that has substantial reach and can profoundly impact the health of the populations the system serves. As the senior physician leader for the Central California region, the RMO will be a keystone executive in the care transformation process, in close collaboration with the system Chief Clinical Officer (CCO) and Regional President of the Central California region.

The RMO will have leadership responsibility for the full continuum of care in all markets served within the Central California region.  He/she will oversee and be responsible for advancing the region’s clinical agenda as it continues its journey from a fee-for-service based culture to one which is focused on fee-for-value. This leader will foster the clinical leadership and engagement necessary for care redesign across the care continuum within Central California.

The successful RMO will be a physician with appropriate board certification and progressive experience in clinical practice, including a background in quality management, performance improvement and care redesign. He/she will have at least five years in a physician/executive/administrative leadership role; an advanced degree in health care or business related field is preferred. The successful RMO will be visible, proactive, decisive, an outstanding communicator, and able to build relationships across the region and organization to engage peers in delivering excellence in clinical care.
