Penn State Hershey Medical Center, in Hershey, Pennsylvania, seeks an innovative and operationally-focused healthcare professional as Senior Vice President, Hospital Operations (SVP). Reporting to the Medical Center’s President, the SVP will have a highly visible and key leadership role in overseeing a broad array of clinical and support operational areas within the Medical Center, ultimately responsible for approximately 2,600 FTEs and an expense budget of $500 million.

Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (Medical Center) is a full-service, tertiary and quaternary care institution serving the healthcare needs of approximately four and one half million people. The only medical facility in Pennsylvania to be accredited as both an adult and a pediatric Level 1 trauma center, the 548-bed Medical Center once again received Magnet designation in 2017 and is one of the leading teaching and research hospitals in the country.  The Medical Center campus includes Penn State College of Medicine, Penn State Cancer Institute and the Penn State Children’s Hospital.   

The SVP will provide leadership that will result in strong operational performance, exceptional teamwork, quality care, as well as growth in programs and market share. While the SVP will have a strategic role and involvement in health system initiatives, the emphasis will be on working closely with a variety of leaders in advancing cost management, service excellence and operational improvement initiatives within the Medical Center.

Candidates must possess senior operational leadership experience gained within an academic medical center, a large, complex teaching hospital or a clinically progressive hospital or health system. The successful candidate will have strong strategic skills, a demonstrated customer service orientation, and a track record of working exceptionally well with physicians. A graduate degree in business, healthcare administration or closely related field is required.
