Central Maine Healthcare in Lewiston, ME has retained Witt/Kieffer to aid in the recruitment of a System Director, Oncology Service Line.

Central Maine Healthcare (CMH) is a 3-hospital system based in Lewiston, Maine anchored by Central Maine Medical Center, a 200-bed tertiary care facility, level 2 trauma center, and offering robust tertiary services. Additionally, Bridgton Hospital and Rumford Hospital are two thriving critical access hospitals.

CMH also supports the Central Maine Heart and Vascular Institute, located at CMMC. Central Maine Medical Group (CMMG) is a primary and specialty care organization, comprised of over 400 providers with 84 clinics serving 17 communities throughout Maine. The vast majority of physicians practicing within CMH are employed by CMMG. Providers are currently on a variety of compensation models.  Combined, the three hospitals and medical group serve a region from northeastern New Hampshire to Maine’s Kennebec County. With approximately $500 million in net revenues, CMH is serving some 400,000 people living in central, western and mid-coast Maine and has over 4,000 dedicated employees serving those patients. CMH is seeking an experienced, bold and operationally sound healthcare leader to serve as System Director, Oncology Service Line for Central Maine Healthcare. This is an exciting time to be joining the organization, which is going through a strategic and financial transformation with the goal of becoming a more integrated, value-driven organization. Reporting to the EVP, Chief Operating Officer of Central Maine Healthcare, this leader will have oversight of the Oncology Service Line throughout the system.  This leader will be responsible for developing and formalizing an integrated approach to oncology throughout the system, as well as creating a cancer alliance network with Massachusetts General Hospital and other entities throughout Central Maine’s service area. In addition to the strategic and operational leadership of the Oncology Service Line, this leader will have full P&L responsibility.

The System Director will identify opportunities to grow the service line by providing the highest quality outcomes and cancer treatment success rates. The ideal candidate will have both an entrepreneurial spirit and track record of developing and growing oncology service lines. He/she will also possess a strong operational foundation and an orientation to detail. This position works collaboratively with physicians, system leadership, hospital leadership teams, and staff to ensure the service line meets its goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate for the System Director, Oncology Services will possess significant experience in a complex healthcare environment leading oncology services. Experience in the academic medical center setting is a plus. A proven ability to partner with private and employed oncology groups as well as experience partnering with an academic partner in clinical trials expansion, referrals, and protocol adoption is strongly desired.
