Dave Matheson currently serves as WittKieffer’s board chair and has been a member of the firm’s board since 2013. Matheson is also a senior advisor to The Boston Consulting Group (BCG), where he worked for 30 years, serving as a senior partner and in various other capacities. He founded and led the firm’s healthcare practice, managed its Boston office and served on the BCG Executive Committee. Much of Matheson’s work has been focused on healthcare integration. He coined the term “disease management” and developed approaches for implementing coordinated care across silos and sectors. For payers, he developed strategies for several successful joint ventures and community-wide collaborations. Within academic medicine, he facilitated the formation of Partners Healthcare in Boston and led assignments in cancer care, psychiatric care and AMC governance and management. He has worked extensively in pharmaceuticals research, marketing and corporate strategy, and ran several large post-merger integration assignments. Matheson has also done significant work related to healthcare technology and global health initiatives. Outside healthcare, he has worked with smaller companies and Fortune 100 firms. He has advised universities on strategy and performance, including issues of technology transfer and new business development. Areas of convergence between healthcare and education include the development of life science clusters, and strategies seeking to optimize the role of healthcare within the university.
