Walsh College - President
Walsh College seeks an outstanding leader to build upon its reputation for academic excellence and move toward greater ambitions. The Board of Trustees invites applications, nominations and expressions of interest for the position of president and chief executive officer.
Walsh is a private, independent, non-profit and upper-division institution based in Troy, Michigan. Founded in 1922, Walsh provides a transformative business education that combines theory, application and professional experience to prepare graduates for successful careers. It enjoys a strong reputation in the regional business community. Walsh offers 15 degree programs, several dual degree options and numerous certifications in business and technology related fields. About 60% of students are pursuing graduate degrees. Walsh is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs for selected degrees.
Walsh’s next president will galvanize stakeholders to advance and broaden its place of distinction in the marketplace. The president will be able to fully commit to business, technology, and related professional education, as well as Walsh’s teaching mission. At the same time, the president will be fully aware of and experientially positioned to address the disruptive changes occurring within higher education and to seek strategic opportunities that benefit Walsh.
The next president will be capable of developing relationships and strategic alliances that promote and advance the institution and its graduates. Building relationships at the highest level with corporations, educational partners and key constituents is a high priority. A successful track record of raising philanthropic support, business relationship management or business development experience is preferred.
Significant executive leadership experience in an environment of similar or greater complexity is required. A higher education executive or a prominent business person with a higher education affiliation is strongly preferred. Demonstrating a successful track record in a financially-independent institution or organization will be of particular advantage to candidates.
The next president will have a demonstrated track record for harnessing the passion and commitment of an institution or organization. To be successful, the president will possess and exhibit: integrity, intelligence, sound judgment, trustworthiness, considerable personal energy, confidence tempered by humility, courage of convictions, diplomacy, exceptional political instincts and a sense of humor. Leveraging these traits to achieve a collaborative, transparent leadership style based on shared governance principles will be essential. A demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion is also required. Other skills and attributes include:
- Executive presence with superb written, oral, interpersonal and presentation skills;
- Ability to set and clearly convey strategies and corresponding success measures;
- Ability to balance institutional priorities and make wise resource allocations;
- Proven ability to make difficult decisions and implement change;
- Knowledge of the role of technology in business and/or higher education; and
- An entrepreneurial spirit or fostering it in others.
