UVA Health - Chief Pharmacy Officer

UVA Health seeks an experienced and forward-thinking pharmacy executive to serve as the Chief Pharmacy Officer. The UVA Department of Pharmacy has a $260 million drug expense budget, close to 300 FTEs. There are seven retail pharmacies including a URAC accredited specialty pharmacy, five infusion centers, and a substantial 340B program.

UVA Health is comprised of UVA Medical Center, the School of Medicine, the School of Nursing, University Physicians Group and the Claude Moore Health Sciences Library and includes a 631-bed Magnet-Designated hospital, UVA Children’s, an NCI-designated clinical cancer center, a nationally recognized heart center and primary and specialty clinics throughout Central Virginia and beyond. 

Reporting to the UVA Health Chief Operating Officer, the Chief Pharmacy Officer (CPO) is accountable for organizing, leading, and managing UVA Health’s inpatient and outpatient pharmacy services, including outlying clinics and physician practices. The Administrator is also responsible for pharmacy services including but not limited to retail pharmacies, specialty pharmacy, post-acute care, infusion pharmacies, and mail order. Additional services are provided to joint ventures including but not limited to Encompass Health, Hospice of the Piedmont, and Transitional Care Hospital. The CPO ensures the pharmacy works in a collegial manner with and supports the teaching and research mission of the Health System, including collaboration with VCU School of Pharmacy.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible senior hospital pharmacy leadership in an academic medical center or complex health system; involvement in the training of pharmacy students and residents; considerable experience managing large budgets and human resources and a track record of creating value in emerging, innovative pharmacy-based services. A pharmacy degree (B.S. and/or Pharm.D.) is required; a Master’s degree is required; and a Doctor of Pharmacy is strongly preferred.
