Nevada State College - Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs
NV, Henderson
Nevada State (NS), a four-year Minority Serving public institution, committed to the advancement of a diverse and largely under-served student population of more than 7,000 is seeking a Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs to lead us into the next chapter of our story and build upon the fundamental tenets of our mission. The primary focus of this mission is “the New Majority” – first-generation students, Dreamers, adults with college credit but without college degrees, students of color, and anyone looking for the opportunity to improve their economic mobility. Nestled among the foothills of Mount Scorpion in Henderson, Nevada, NS’s 512-acre campus is rapidly developing to meet a growing student population with dynamic programs.
NS was established in 2002 as a new tier in the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) between the research universities and the two-year colleges. Designated as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Institution (AANAPISI), NS is an institution where teaching and student support are valued above all else. NS is a comprehensive college that offers baccalaureate degrees with more than 60 majors and minors in the School of Education, the School of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Business, and the School of Nursing.
Reporting to the President, Dr. DeRionne Pollard, the Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs will serve as Nevada State’s Chief Academic Officer (CAO), ensuring that all aspects of academic affairs work collaboratively to support our diverse student body. The Provost will guide the evaluation and approval process for all academic tenure and promotion decisions, collaborating with human resources on hiring and retention of faculty and staff, with an emphasis on hiring and retaining diverse and highly qualified faculty.
Overseeing the Executive Vice Provost, Dean of Education, Dean of Liberal Arts Sciences and Business, Dean of the Library, Dean of Nursing, Registrar, Office Manager, and Senior Advisor and Executive Director of the Arts, the Provost will be responsible for establishing the academic vision of the institution with faculty planning new academic programs and graduate programs, and ensuring the quality of existing academic programs, fostering collaboration between administration, faculty, and staff and guiding NS’s workforce development efforts. The Provost will be instrumental in implementing processes that support regional accreditation through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).
The Provost will also be expected to serve on committees that help to guide our institutional decision making, including the President’s Leadership Team; Executive Leadership Team; Comprehensive Campaign Steering Committee; Foundation Board; Executive Budget Committee (as Co-Chair); Dean’s Council (Chair) and the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) Academic Affairs Council.
