Valparaiso University (Valpo) seeks an experienced, forward-thinking chief marketing officer to craft an ambitious agenda that leverages Valpo’s current strengths and tackles the challenges and opportunities facing today’s dynamic and competitive higher education environment. This leadership position will design a comprehensive, consultative marketing strategy and approach that will enhance the university’s brand expression and value proposition through targeted institution-wide strategy, engagement and initiatives.

Founded in 1859, Valparaiso University is a private, comprehensive university of 4,000 students pursuing majors in more than 70 fields of study. Students gain a thorough grounding in undergraduate liberal arts as well as advanced degree education at the Graduate School. The university is located in northwest Indiana – just 20 minutes from Indiana Dunes National Park on Lake Michigan and one hour from Chicago.

Reporting to and working closely with Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives Lisa Hollander, the chief marketing officer will join a strong team of award winning professionals focused on contemporary, integrated marketing and communication strategy and supports comprehensive brand strategy, enhances the reputation and recognition of the university and broadens the public’s awareness and understanding of the university’s mission and impact. Additionally, the chief marketing officer will be a member of the Provost’s Council which includes the college deans and the leaders of academic affairs, enrollment, retention, student affairs, diversity and inclusion, administration, and athletics.

The chief marketing officer will have the opportunity to shape the national brand and reputation of the university, including demonstrating how the university enables students to lead and serve in a global society. The successful candidate will demonstrate a robust creative instinct and an entrepreneurial spirit. Valpo’s chief marketing officer will have a strong grasp of global trends in higher education, with a particular emphasis on enrollment marketing, and bring vision, innovation, integrity and exceptional communication and technological skills. The new chief marketing officer will utilize research methodology in informing marketing strategies and translate those results into brand and constituent-centric messaging, advertising and digital efforts. A bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree in a related field is preferred.
