Faith-Based

Strengthening the Fabric of Every Community

Like all successful healthcare organizations, faith-based health systems seek the best candidate for the job, but they also demand more from their leaders. Shared values, a commitment to servant leadership and a deep, unshakeable belief that their work is, first and foremost, for the benefit of others serve as common threads among the most successful executives. This is especially relevant in leadership selection and a candidate’s ability to prove that he or she has succeeded in a faith- or mission-based environment, has lived in alignment with the organization’s values and has clearly furthered its core mission while also succeeding in the marketplace.

As the leader in serving organizations committed to improving the quality of life, WittKieffer’s support for faith-based healthcare organizations is a cornerstone of our firm. Within the past decade alone, we have conducted over 1,000 searches for faith-based organizations, including more than 125 CEO searches for hospitals and health systems. Our commitment has given us an acute ability to build strong, trusting relationships with candidates and, in the course of ongoing discussions and explorations, to fully explore their motivations and how their values align with each organization.

Success Story

Sr. Mary Haddad
Continuity and Compassion Define Leadership of the Catholic Health Association

For more than 100 years the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA) has been a steady, guiding light in U.S. healthcare, encouraging its members and the wider industry to serve patients and communities with compassion and excellence. The Catholic healthcare ministry represents the largest nonprofit provider in the U.S., and much of CHA’s success can be attributed to the vision and steadfast commitment to the greater good consistently demonstrated by its leaders. For 14 years, Sr. Carol Keehan served as president and CEO and was widely hailed as one of the most influential voices in American health care. Upon Sr. Carol’s recently announced retirement, another dedicated, proven executive, Sr. Mary Haddad, was selected to step into the role. Sr. Mary builds upon her 40 years of professional service and carries on the tradition of forward-thinking leadership atop CHA. WittKieffer is proud to have supported the recruitments of both exceptional leaders.
