Managed Care

Navigating the Future of Health and Well-Being

Today and into the future, health plans must continuously re-evaluate their respective value propositions for employers, members and providers, given the levels of industry consolidation and the seismic shift in provider philosophy. From healthcare reform and innovation to changing demographics and consumer demands, the offerings across all business lines come with new challenges and untapped opportunities.

WittKieffer serves the full spectrum of health plan and managed care organizations, from regional and community plans to national organizations and independent Blues, many of which appear as perennial leaders on NCQA’s Health Plan Ratings list and other comparable rankings. Our firm is unique in that we hold preferred vendor status with the Association for Community Affiliated Plans (ACAP) and its members, underscoring our commitment to organizations that support the most vulnerable populations and underserved communities.

We are especially focused on government-sponsored plans as well as vertically integrated delivery systems with growing and/or historically significant market share within their health plans. As the line between payers and providers continues to blur, our managed care recruiters are optimally positioned to address the talent crossover and evolving roles within advanced organizations and complex collaboratives, particularly for emerging roles in population health management, ACOs and other clinically integrated networks.

Success Story

Michael Schrader - CEO, Health Plan of San Joaquim
Schrader brings experience, commitment to CEO role

With the support of WittKieffer, the Health Plan of San Joaquin began a national search in the latter part of 2019 to identify the organization’s next CEO. On June 4, 2020, Michael Schrader, an executive with deep experience as a nonprofit Medi-Cal Plan leader, was named to the post. Assuming leadership as the COVID-19 pandemic began impacting nearly every aspect of life around the world, Schrader continued emphasizing the need to expand access to high-quality healthcare for vulnerable and underserved segments of the population. Serving the needs of the region’s diverse population remains a high priority. His ongoing commitment to employee engagement and career development is being met with tremendous support across the organization.

Shawn Forrester - VP Payor Relations, and President of Scripps Health Plan Services, Scripps Health
Forrester building partnerships to expand quality healthcare access

Sought for his “payer side” experience and perspective, Shawn Forrester was named Vice President of Payor Relations at Scripps Health in 2019 to help facilitate new and innovative partnerships for the nonprofit healthcare provider. In September of 2020, Scripps announced a collaboration with Alignment Healthcare, expanding access to high quality Scripps providers for seniors living across San Diego county; subsequently securing an exclusive relationship for San Diego with Centivo, and is now the primary provider in San Diego for Molina’s Covered California product and Cigna’s new partnership with Oscar HP for small group employers. The creative agreements come at a time as demand for quality care has increased amid the pandemic. Forrester joined Scripps in his current role following a nationwide search conducted in partnership with WittKieffer.
