Florida Southern College has appointed Andrew Phillip Payne, Ph.D., as the founding dean and professor of architecture for the new School of Architecture on the historic Frank Lloyd Wright campus.
Payne brings extensive experience in architecture, construction management, interior design, campus planning, and universal design. He most recently served as dean and professor at Kennesaw State University’s College of Architecture and Construction Management. His previous roles include chair of the Department of Built Environment at Indiana State University and professor of architecture at Savannah College of Art and Design.
He also served as a researcher at the Center for Universal Design at NC State University, where he completed his Ph.D. in design, focusing on wayfinding for visually impaired pedestrians. Payne is principal of Studio GAP, a design consultancy specializing in campus planning, accessibility, and materiality.
The School of Architecture welcomed its first undergraduate cohort in fall 2025, with a graduate program forthcoming. Students will benefit from hands-on learning in cutting-edge facilities and the opportunity to study within the world’s largest single-site collection of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture.
