Mary Mayhew Named CEO of Florida Hospital Association

Florida Hospital Association (FHA), the voice of the state’s hospital community, has announced the selection of Mary C. Mayhew as its next President and Chief Executive Officer. As President and CEO, Mayhew will be responsible for the strategic direction and overall operation of FHA, supporting its 200-plus members in achieving their missions and objectives. She will advocate proactively at the state and federal levels on issues that will assist members in providing exceptional patient care and community service.

Mayhew was identified as the top candidate for the post by a seven-member search committee comprised of key board leadership members. Her hire followed an extensive industry-wide recruitment supported by Oak Brook, Illinois-based global executive search firm WittKieffer.

Mayhew most recently served as Secretary of the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA), a $29.4 billion health care enterprise representing close to 31 percent of Florida’s total state budget. Tapped by Governor Ron DeSantis and confirmed by the Florida Senate in May 2019, her responsibilities have included health policy and planning for the State of Florida and administration of the state’s Medicaid program.

“This opportunity is the culmination of many rich and diverse leadership experiences I have had in the health care industry,” noted Mayhew. “The State of Florida is perhaps the most dynamic and evolving health care environment in the nation. I look forward to collaborating with all our members, from rural and safety net hospitals to some of the nation’s leading educational and research institutions. We are in the midst of the most challenging and uncertain health care environment of our lifetimes, and I welcome the opportunity to convene and engage with our members as they embrace change and fulfill their missions in new and creative ways.”

WittKieffer’s Kimberly Smith and John McFarland led this search.
